Article 1 (Purpose)
The purpose of this award is to encourage research among young members of the society with the aim of promoting the development of African education research. Awardees will receive a certificate.
Article 2 (Name)
The prizes are the “Utsumi Seiji Prize (for outstanding papers)” and the “Encouragement Prize”. The “Utsumi Seiji Prize” is awarded for outstanding original papers in the field of African education research, and the “Encouragement Prize” is awarded for outstanding papers that demonstrate excellent potential.
Article 3 (Eligibility for application)
The applicant must be a member of the Japan Society for Africa Educational Research. In the case of joint research, the main author must be a member.
Article 4 (Subject of Review)
The selection of awardees will take place once a year. Papers eligible for review are original papers, research notes and survey reports published in the “African Education Research Journal,” as well as papers or books based on content presented at the Japan Society for Africa Educational Research Conference in English or Japanese, between January 1st of the year before last and December 31st of the previous year. However, the same work will be reviewed only once.
Article 5 (Application Method)
Applicants must submit their relevant work along with the prescribed recommendation form to the designated address within the specified application period. Both self-recommendations and recommendations from others are accepted.
Article 6 (Selection Committee)
The Selection Committee will be formed of members of the society’s board of directors. The committee chair will be elected by a vote among the Selection Committee members.
Article 7 (Selection Method)
The Selection Committee will conduct the review and determine awardees. The commendation of awardees will be held at the General Assembly of the Japan Society of African Education.
Supplementary Provisions
These regulations came into effect on April 6th, 2024.
